Our smaller birds feed like crazy, once they are brave enough to enter the "cage." It is their safe place to feed. The larger birds sit on the post & wonder how their friends do it. They try to hang on the wires and stick their beaks in and then give up and are happy cleaning up the ground spills. Great feeder!

This feeder seems to be doing the trick. The squirrel still tries but it holds him off the goodies.

No assembly required other than a little tab that I did not know what to do with. We put it where we imagined that it would go but it is gone now, somehow. It seems to be fine without it. This feeder keeps the bullies out.

Packaging seemed appropriate but for some reason the top cover, not the fill lid, was not connected properly. If I recall there are 4 clips that hold the cover on. Two of the clips were bent and required an adjustment before the cover would attach correctly. I would recommend caution in bending these as they are thin metal and I would expect they would break easily with too much bending. Without any damage to the packaging, I suspect this was an assembly issue. Anyway, to date, it has frustrated blue jays while allowing smaller birds a place to eat. I have not observed any squirrels on it yet most likely because there is another feeder further from the house. I did observe that Flickers can stretch their necks in far enough the cage to feed. I mounted this temporarily on a 3/4"x12" PVC nipple. The threaded end fits nicely into the mount beneath the feeder which is NOT threaded but holds securely because of the thread taper. Then I attached the nipple to a T post with two hose clamps. All in all, I am pleased and believe good value at about $51 delivered. Product is imported.

Do any of the caged bird feeders allow cardinals?
A:The caged bird feeders are intended to keep larger birds out. We suggest an open bird feeder for cardinals.
